Wicklow put themselves bang in the promotion frame and delivered a major blow to Tipperary’s chances of going up with a 14 point win in Aughrim this afternoon.

Oisin McConville’s men were level on points with the Premier side going into the game, with both sides fully aware of how big the encounter was, particularly after Carlow’s defeat to London yesterday.

Wicklow’s win put them joint top with Carlow on eight points, one clear of Longford, who lost out in Leitrim, and surprise packets London.

Longford host Wicklow next weekend in a game where the loser will miss out on promotion and a League Final spot.

London are away to Antrim, who have nothing to play for despite a 19 point win in Waterford today, with Marc Jordan, Peter Healy, Ryan McQuillan and Adam Loughran all hitting the net.

Meanwhile, Kevin Quinn’s two early two-pointers from play set Wicklow on their way and when Padraig O’Toole hit the Tipp net in the 12th minute they were 1-4 to 0-0 clear.

Wicklow were 2-14 to 0-2 ahead after 26 minutes with Eoin Darcy goaling and netminder Mark Jackson knocking over a pair of two point frees.

The irrepressible Dean Healy was involved in two Wicklow goals as they laid down a marker here.

Longford had promotion within their grasp, but they were comprehensively beaten by Leitrim, who were helped to victory by two goals from Gavin Reynolds and one from Barry McNulty. McNulty also slotted over a pair of two point frees.

Leitrim lead by double scores on 56 minutes - 2-18 to 1-9 - after a Paddy Moran point from play, having built a 1-12 to 1-7 half-time lead with Matthew Carey hitting the Longford goal.

Steven Poacher’s men were able to see it out comfortably and maintain the slightest of promotion hopes.

But they have to win in Carlow next weekend and hope that a lot elsewhere goes their way on what is sure to be a dramatic final day of the group stages.

On Saturday, London put a major dent in Carlow's promotion hopes to make it back-to-back defeats for Joe Murphy’s side.

Carlow had won their opening four games and were streaking away at the top, but now they’ll almost certainly have to win their final game, which is at home to Leitrim next weekend.

That's three wins and a draw from six games for London, as they move onto seven points.

Michael Maher’s men are enjoying their best ever league campaign and have their highest points tally, with the win over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park fuelled by the scoring power of Ciaran Diver and Liam Gallagher.

Diver hit 0-5 from play, while Gallagher shot 0-4 from play with Liam Murphy grabbing the all important 63rd minute goal to give London a five point lead and breathing space.

Joe McGill and Shay Rafter also hit 0-4 apiece, with both men scoring two from play and two from frees.
